During our preparations for this trip, we told the students to remember that we represent Highlands Community Church and Brentwood Baptist Church, but more importantly, Jesus. We challenged the students to be the hands and feet of Jesus. Well today, they did JUST that. During our second flight from Las Vegas to Nashville, the stewardess team was asking what we were doing, where we were going and why. (A crowd of 39 of us with lots of teenagers and neon yellow tags sure do not help us 'blend in'). The team was so impressed that our students were giving up their Spring Break to serve Jesus and the people of Nashville, and were commenting on how well behaved our students were. They even were arguing about which one of them would have us all seated in their sections - they all wanted to serve us! We mentioned to them we had this blog running and they asked for the URL so they could follow our adventures for the week. AND they asked if we could use extra snacks, so they bagged up what was left from the flight - we now have pretzels, ritz crackers and oreo's to snack on for the week. THANK YOU to Southwest airlines for your friendly service and patience with so many students all on one flight!
After a full day of travel our students are beginning to crash for the evening. We arrived in Nashville around 3:00, picked up our rental cars...we were supposed to be in mini vans but got a free upgrade to epic suburbans! Tinted windows and 6 really fancy cars sure don't help us fit in over here but it is sure fun feeling like secret agents! We grabbed a bite to eat at cracker barrel with our students asking about grits, fried okra and the likings.
After a quick trip to Target, we headed to our hotel to get settled for the evening. We talked about the tentative plan for the next few days and got settled in our rooms. Some of our students got some energy out in the weight room and pool, some played a few games and others just rested. We are letting the kids sleep in tomorrow since all are about done after such an early morning. Then we will go visit Andrew Jackson's Estate - the Hermitage - then to Brentwood tomorrow evening for dinner, church and then off to our host homes. Exciting things ahead for us all!
